7. User behaviour on the Website

7.1 This website uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. ("Google"). Google Analytics uses "cookies", which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. On this website IP anonymization is activated, which means Google will truncate/anonymize the last octet of the IP address for Member States of the European Union as well as for other parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases, the full IP address is sent to and shortened by Google servers in the USA. On behalf of the website provider Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage to the website provider. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser. However, please note that if you do this, you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. Furthermore you can prevent Google’s collection and use of data (cookies and IP address) by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available under https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout?hl=en-GB.

Further information concerning the terms and conditions of use and data privacy can be found at http://www.google.com/analytics/terms/gb.html or at http://support.google.com/analytics/answer/6004245?hl=en-GB.

7.2 In order to prevent your visit to our portal being comprehensively recorded and analysed by providers of social media / social sharing functions, we use the “Shariff script” developed by Heise.de for our Facebook, Twitter and Google Plus functions for your protection.
Shariff enables you to use social media without jeopardising your privacy unnecessarily. The c’t project Shariff replaces social networks’ conventional share buttons and protects your surfing behaviour from prying eyes. All the same, it just takes a single click on the button to share information with others. You do not need to take any action – the Webmaster has already dealt with everything.
Customary social media buttons transmit user data to Facebook & Co. every time a page is viewed, and give social networking sites exact information about your surfing behaviour (user tracking). For this to occur, you do not need to be logged on or a member of the social network. In contrast, a Shariff button only establishes a direct contact between the social network and the visitor when the latter actively clicks on the share button.
In this way, Shariff prevents you from leaving behind digital traces every time you visit a site, improving data protection. You can then feel free to like, +1 or tweet to your heart’s content – this is the only information the social network gets. Thanks to Shariff, “likes” are displayed by the operator of the website with the buttons. Since Shariff is integrated by the Webmaster, as a visitor you do not have to take any action.

8. Deletion of your information

We will delete your personal data completely and in accordance with data protection standards at the time that it is no longer required for the purpose for which it was originally stored or you request it be deleted.

9. Right to information

At your request, we will gladly inform you, at no charge and in accordance with statutory provisions, whether we have saved any of your personal information and which data we have saved. You can send an informal request for this information to dataprotection@academia-net.org
