Short CV/Education and training

  • Dr. Paola Gori Giorgi studied Physics at the University of Rome "La Sapienza" (Italy), where she graduated in 1996. In February 2000 she has obtained her PhD in Physics from the University of Perugia (Italy), with a thesis on the properties of the electron liquid. She then worked as a postdoctoral research associate at Tulane University (USA), in the group of Prof. J. P. Perdew, a leading scientist in the field of density functional theory (DFT). Back in Rome for a two-year position, she worked on the two-dimensional electron gas. Thereafter, she moved to the University "Pierre et Marie Curie" in Paris with a Marie Curie intra-european fellowship, where she worked in the group of Dr. A. Savin, another leading scientist in DFT. After one year, she was appointed permanent researcher at CNRS (French Research Council) in the same institution. In 2009, she was awarded the Dutch NWO grant Vidi and the Aspasia prize for excellent female researchers. At the same time, she was appointed Assistant Professor at the Vrije Universiteit. Her current research interests span from DFT for systems with strong correlation to approaches based on electronic pair densities.
