Short CV/Education and training

  • Elies van Sliedregt is Professor of Criminal Law at the Free University Amsterdam (VU) and Dean of the Faculty of Law. Previously, Van Sliedregt worked as university lecturer at Utrecht University and as associate professor at Leiden University.

    Van Sliedregt is senior editor of the Leiden Journal of International Law, member of the Board of the Netherlands Association of International Law (NVIR) and member of The Young Academy of The Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW). She has held visiting fellowships in Cambridge, Oxford, Bologna, and at the University of New South Wales, Sydney. In 2010 she worked as visiting professional with Chambers at the International Criminal Court (ICC).

    Van Sliedregt has published extensively in the field of international and European criminal law. Her PhD thesis on criminal responsibility for violations of international humanitarian law (T.M.C. Asser Press, 2003) was awarded several prizes. A revised edition was published in the Oxford monographs on international law (OUP) in May 2012.
