Short CV/Education and training

  • Graduated from University of Glasgow Medical School in 1980 and performed junior house officer jobs in Glasgow before moving to Northwick Park Hospital, Harrow, in 1981 to study pathology. In 1983 I was awarded a Fogarty Fellowship and spent the next three years in the Laboratory of Tumor Cell Biology at NCI, NIH working on HTLV-I and HIV. Returned to Glasgow with the establishment of the LRF Virus Centre in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in 1986, becoming head of Centre in 1991. Promoted to professor in 1997 and since 2001 have been Professor of Molecular Pathology with an honorary NHS consultant position in pathology (2002). Head of Division of Pathological Sciences in the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine from 2004 – 2007. Since 2010 I have been part of the MRC-University of Glasgow Centre for Virus Research.
