Selected projects

  • 1986 – 1990: Set-up and provided scientific direction, and management of a multi-disciplinary protein engineering project (5 years) involving Industry (Gist Brocades/ the Netherlands, Amylum/ Belgium, Plant genetic Systems/ Belgium) and academic laboratories (S.Wodak, Universié Libre de Bruxelles; Y. Engleborghs, KUL Leuven, in Belgium, J. Janin in France). The project involved a team of ~30 scientists, located in Gent, Brussels, Leuven and France

  • 1998 – 2000: Directed a major collaboration with 5 pharmaceutical industries and the EMBL-EBI on the development of aMAZE, a database on protein function and biochemical processes (team of 8 scientists and developers)

  • 2000 – 2004: Directed the development of the aMAZE database (team of 12 developers) with funding from the Brussels and Wallon Regions

  • 1987 – 2004: Coordinated 6 large multi-national EU projects in dealing with various aspects of structural bioinformatics

  • 2007 – 2012: Was the main PI of a Team project (6 Toronto labs.) for the Canadian Institutes of Health Research on Deriving the Human Disease Interactome from Interaction Networks in Model Organisms
