Short CV/Education and training

  • Silvia Schroer, born in 1958 in Münster in Westphalia, studied Catholic theology and classical philology in Münster and Munich, Germany, and in Fribourg, Switzerland. After receiving her Lizenziat degree in theology, she completed her doctoral studies in 1986 under Prof. Othmar Keel at Fribourg with a dissertation on information in the Old Testament about the performing arts in ancient Israel and received her Habilitation (postdoctoral qualification) in 1989 as the first woman on the Faculty of Theology at the University of Fribourg.

  • She managed the affairs of the Swiss Catholic Bible Society from 1987 to 1992. After years of research and teaching assignments at numerous universities in German-speaking countries, she, as a Catholic theologian, was made chair of the Old Testament and the environment of the Bible in the Faculty of Protestant Theology at the University of Bern, Switzerland.

  • She is the founder and editor of the first Internet journal for feminist exegesis in Europe, the "lectio difficilior".
