Emily Flashman studied Biochemistry with Pharmacology at the University of Southampton, followed by a D.Phil. in Biochemistry/Cardiovascular Medicine at the University of Oxford. After a few years as a postdoctoral researcher with Prof. Chris Schofield in the Department of Chemistry, she was awarded a Royal Society Dorothy Hodgkin Fellowship in 2010 and a L'Oreal For Women In Science Fellowship in 2011. During this period her work focussed on the molecular mechanisms of human oxygen-sensing enzymes. In 2015, Emily was awarded a BBSRC New Investigator grant to pursue the molecular characterisation of potential plant oxygen-sensing enzymes, and her research interests now focus on developing mechanisms of enhancing abiotic stress tolerance.
