Biodiversity of mycorrhizal fungi, Community ecology, Soil biota, Biodiversity databases, Bioinformatical solutions in ecology, Applications of soil biota in agriculture and restoration
My team developed a DNA-sequence based nomenclature system for recognising and identifying arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi in the environment. My team runs a biodiversity database (MaarjAM) collating AM fungal occurrence and ecological information. I am interested in understanding the roles of soil biota, including AM fungi, in functioning of natural and antropogenic ecosystems, and their roles in biodiversity patterns at small to large spatial scales. I am interested in applying the soil biota (incl AM fungi), and utilising their natural functioning, for food production and conservation, including restoration of habitats.
