My main research interest are in the emerging field of organic bio-electronics, and concern the realization, implementation and characterization of hybrid interfaces for applications in life sciences. I developed in the latest years a huge experience in the characterization and implementation of bio-polymer interfaces for optical stimulation of living systems, contributing to establishing the field of 'photoceutics'. Optical/spectroscopic studies of organic semiconductors complete my profile.
English, Italian
I obtained the master degree in Physics from Università Statale degli Studi di Milano, with a thesis titled “Fundamental photophysical properties in organic semiconductors: the triplet state” (109/110) and the PhD in Physics from Politecnico di Milano, Physics Dept (awarded with merit, 2008).
Then, I joined IIT as a post-doc and later on, in 2010, I was appointed at the newly formed Center for Nano Science and Technology @PoliMi. Since 2012, I hold a permanent position as a Researcher Technologist at IIT and I lead the Optocell Lab, for biohybrid interfaces studies, cells culturing and physiology. I developed in the latest years a huge experience in the characterization and implementation of bio-polymer interfaces for optical stimulation of living systems.
Currently, my research group comprises 4 PhD students and 5 Post-docs, and is characterized by a very high level of supra-disciplinarity, including physicists, engineers, materials scientists, biotechnologists, and neuroscientists.

I routinely act as a reviewer for several high-impact journals (Advanced Materials, Nature Communications, ACS AMI, Organic Electronics, J. Mater. Chem and many others). I acted as remote reviewer for ERC-AdG calls within Horizon 2020 programme and for German, Polish, Austrian and French national projects.
I frequently carry out outreach and public dissemination activities, and I co-organized 6 international symposia and workshops.
In the past, I supervised numerous (>30) Bachelor Degree thesis in Physics, Physical Engineering, Biomedical Engineering and Material Science, several (>15) Master Degree thesis, 14 PhD students and more than 7 Post-docs.
