    Prof. Katja Matthes' and her team of climate researchers, with colleagues from Norway, could show a link between natural temperature variations in the Pacific Ocean and in the so-called tropopause at an altitude of 15 km.

    The about 11-year cycle of solar activity is influencing long-term climate fluctuations in the Northern Hemisphere. An international team of scientists, among them Prof. Katja Matthes from GEOMAR in Kiel, showed that the "North Atlantic Oscillation" is linked to this cycle with a delay of one or two years.
